Stephen has been a qualified trade mark attorney since 1981 and joined Wildbore & Gibbons LLP in 1993.
Prior to joining Wildbore & Gibbons LLP, Stephen gained valuable industry experience with Turner & Newall and Thorn EMI. He moved into private practice in 1983.
Stephen is a Fellow of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA). He has degrees in English (Oxford, 1977) and Law, including an LL.M in European Union Commercial Law (Leicester, 2001).
He is a European Trade Mark Attorney and currently an external examiner for the Postgraduate Certificate in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary College, University of London.
Stephen is an accredited Trade Mark & Design Litigator with a right of audience in the County Courts and the right to conduct litigation in the High Court.
Janella specializes in advising companies on all their trade mark and brand protection requirements. She has particular expertise in advising clients with multiple brand portfolios and those targeting global market places. Janella has wide ranging experience of advising clients who require commercially focused brand management expertise.
Janella is lead partner for a dedicated trade mark team that offers a full spectrum of trade mark and brand management advice. She and her team advise a diverse client base very often supporting both “in house” legal teams or acting as strategic advisers for senior management and brand management teams.
Janella has developed specific expertise with regard to strategic trade mark portfolio and budget management – enabling client companies to control their costs and budget as part of their planning process. She also has extensive knowledge of many jurisdictions across the world and can advise and support clients comprehensively on any of their geographical expansion plans – either to extend their brands into new market places or develop new brands for specific target markets.
Janella also plays a key management role here at Wildbore & Gibbons LLP, her recent internal management projects have included leading the firm to be one of the very first IP firms to have fully integrated “Cloud based” IT and communication systems, and relocating the firm to a new HQ near the Barbican in London. Janella is a European Trade Mark Attorney and has served on the Council of ITMA during which time she became particularly involved in the Information Committee of the Council, and in particular oversaw the rebranding of the Institute to the format still in use today. She has also previously been an ITMA examiner and a student tutor.
Trade Mark Attorney
Sarah read law at Cambridge before joining the firm in 2011. She has a varied client base which includes sectors such as food and drink, cosmetics, and several heritage brands. Sarah is experienced in all aspects of trade mark prosecution including clearance searches, devising worldwide filing programmes and handling any official or third party objections. She is also involved in contentious matters and has a particular interest in non-traditional trade marks such as three-dimensional marks as well as litigation conducted through the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC). Sarah is a member of ITMA and sits of two ITMA committee working groups. Sarah has written several published articles on the implications of particular trade mark cases and regularly speaks about trade mark matters at business events and seminars.

Renewals and Records Manager
Marie, who joined us in 1993, is our renewals and records manager. Marie is an integral part of the Wildbore Team as she oversees the maintenance of all the worldwide trade mark portfolios of our clients. She is an Associate Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, having passed the ITMA Administrators Course. Marie also manages our clients’ subscriptions to the trade mark watching service.
Chris has eleven years of trade mark experience and has a particular interest in the brand management aspects of trade mark portfolio advice. He has worked on a variety of projects for major clients involving both technical trade mark work as well as the additional research and report services that we offer to key clients as part of our overall client service offering.
Chris studied a BSc in Audio and Recording Systems at De Montfort University, completed the Trade Mark Administrators Course in 2009 and the Post Graduate Certificate in Trade Mark Law in 2015.
Chris joined the firm in August 2010 and is now a part qualified trade mark attorney. He is a student member of ITMA and is currently taking his exams as part of the Post Graduate Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Law School.
Chris is a student member of ITMA.
Owain obtained a BSc (Hons) in Cell Biology at the University of Manchester, before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) from BPP Law School. He has a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) from BPP Law School and obtained the Certificate in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary, University of London, in 2015.
He is currently taking the Trade Mark Practitioners course at Nottingham Trent University, which he is due to complete in 2016. Owain works on a number of client portfolios advising on brand protection and trade mark prosecution in the UK, Europe and across the world.
Owain is a student member of ITMA.
John heads our client service team. He has particular expertise and experience in marketing and client service strategies in professional services firms having headed the marketing teams in 4 law firms over the last 17 years. John is a regular speaker on brand and marketing strategy as well as on the commercial aspects of IP strategies. John’s expertise in branding enables our team to provide our clients with both a commercial and legal perspective on protecting and developing their brands.
John plays an active role in the B4 Business Network in Oxfordshire and the Business in Oxford conference at the Said Business School. John is involved with Young Enterprise in Oxfordshire as a Board Member and former Chairman. He frequently presents seminars for the benefit of Young Enterprise companies and students. He is also supporting the development of 02i (“Opportunities to Inspire”) with talks, seminars and presentations to Oxfordshire schools as part of Careers Fest and Global Entrepreneurs Week. John is also a regular speaker and presenter at the Induction Days for new members of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. John focuses on IP as a key commercial and strategic element of business strategy.
John is a speaker at a number of business conferences including Cloud Expo Europe, The Cloud Industry Forum, Knowledge Exchange and the Legal IT Business Show. He has also been chair and a keynote speaker at the Business In Oxford conferences since 2014 at the Said Business School in Oxford and is Chairing and speaking at the 2016 conference. He has also been lead speaker at the GUBA African Business Conference in London 2013-2016. John is also a keynote speaker at the Holiday Park Innovation Show and Conference 2016 at the NEC, Birmingham.
John is a co-founder of Firm Elite -a business forum for learning, networking and connecting with people who are passionate about business, business growth and learning organisations. John is also a Board member of the Rimbaud and Verlaine Foundation.
John is a Fellow of the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (FIDM) and originally read Geography at Manchester University specialising in Behavioural Geography (BSc.) He also has a specialist interest in Knowledge Management having studied professional management at Oxford University.
